Collector’s Insight

We’ve seen so many versions of the GMT-Master II over the years that you would think there isn’t much Rolex could do to surprise us anymore. Then they decided to flip everything around. Crown on the left, date at 9 o’clock, together with a green and black bezel — small changes on paper, but visually it feels very different from the GMT-Master we’re used to.

It does look a little odd when you first see it, simply because our eyes have been trained to see a Rolex GMT in a certain way. Give it some time though, and that oddness becomes part of the appeal. I like that Rolex was willing to do something unexpected with one of its most recognisable watches without changing what the GMT-Master fundamentally is.
