Collector’s Insight

Rolex took one of its most recognisable design elements, the fluted bezel, and brought that pattern onto the dial itself. It’s a rather simple idea, but the result is surprisingly effective. The repeating grooves create an interesting play of light, giving the dial more depth than the usual sunburst finish.

This configuration is the contrast between the decorative dial and the simplicity of the smooth bezel. At 36mm, it retains those classic Datejust proportions, while the fluted motif adds just enough character to make it stand apart from the more conventional versions. Sometimes a small design change is all it takes to make a familiar watch interesting again.
