The story begins in the early 2000s, when Corum’s owner Severin Wunderman sought to disrupt the industry. Inspired by experimental dive watches with oversized domes, he commissioned the Bubble: a watch with a sapphire crystal so heavily curved it created a magnifying-lens world unto itself. That first Bubble launched in 2000, and its combination of exaggerated form and playful dials quickly developed cult status.
By around 2004, Corum introduced the Bubble Skeleton Ref. 082.130.20, the first skeletonized iteration of the Bubble line. Measuring a commanding 45 mm in diameter and an astonishing 18 mm thick, its case is polished and brushed stainless steel with concave lugs and an exhibition back secured by six screws.
Beneath the distorted sapphire dome lies the soul of the watch: a skeletonized ETA 2892-A2 movement, blackened and stripped back to the essentials, including a skeletonized rotor and glowing steel hands. The open-work design reveals the gear train and plate structure in stark detail—but only from a narrow viewing angle, as the bubble crystal warps perspective in dramatic ways.
