In 1953, Blancpain created the first definitive diving watch for the French Navy, against which all other dive watches would be compared. Designed for water resistance to a depth of 91.44 metres, the Fifty Fathoms was named for its underwater prowess. The Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe, named for Auguste Piccard’s self-propelled submersible, was introduced in 1956 as a tool watch for civilians. For Cortina Watch’s Golden Jubilee, it is housed in a unique combination of titanium case and Sedna Gold bezel with ceramic insert and Ceragold markers. This model is a rare two-tone version which combines the understated colours of brushed titanium and Sedna Gold.
