Collector’s Insight

You don’t come across this Saxonia very often. Ref. 380.044 was made for the reopening of A. Lange & Söhne’s Tokyo Ginza boutique, pairing a white-gold case with a rather unusual Terra Brown dial.

I like how the dial changes depending on the light. Sometimes it’s clearly brown, while at other angles it becomes much more muted, almost grey. At 38.5mm and only 7.8mm thick, the proportions are also just right for me. From the front it’s very simple — hours, minutes and small seconds — but turn it over and you have the beautifully finished L086.1 automatic movement. It’s understated, uncommon and very Lange.
