Collector’s Insight

Back in 1957, Omega introduced the very first Speedmaster with its distinctive Broad Arrow hands and tachymeter bezel. Fast forward to today, and those same design elements are still very much part of the Speedmaster ’57’s identity.

The direction Omega took with this generation by bringing the case size down to a more wearable 40.5mm, the chronograph layout is cleaner with just two subdials, and that green dial adds a little colour without losing its vintage character. There’s also the hand-wound Calibre 9906, which is a nice touch for those who enjoy the interaction of winding a mechanical watch. It has enough of the original Speedmaster’s character, but feels like a modern watch in its own right.
