Why It Belongs

The fun with this collaboration is figuring out the joke before someone tells you. The black dial and green bezel already give the watch plenty of character, but seconde/seconde/ takes that familiar colour combination and adds one tiny detail to completely change how you see it. Look closely at the seconds hand and you’ll probably connect the dots.

The Story

At first, it looks like a straightforward Q Timex with a rather good black-and-green combination. Then you notice the little green detail on the seconds hand. Is that a frog’s foot? Suddenly the green bezel starts making a lot more sense. Timex deliberately doesn’t explain the reference outright, which I think is the right approach. Half the fun is recognising it yourself — and if you don’t, you still have a very wearable Q Timex underneath the joke.

That’s what I enjoy about seconde/seconde/’s approach. Romaric André doesn’t need to redesign the entire watch. Sometimes one slightly ridiculous hand is enough. The familiar 1970s-inspired Q Timex remains intact, complete with its rotating bezel, domed acrylic crystal and steel bracelet; seconde/seconde/ simply gives it another personality.

Collector’s Insight

Between this and the blue version, I think this one has the more subtle joke. Without knowing the reference, it’s simply a nice black-and-green Timex. Once you get it, though, that little green foot becomes impossible to ignore. It’s silly, completely unnecessary and probably exactly why I’d want one.
