Why It Belongs

The Daylight is one of those Panerai references that perfectly captures the brand’s rise during the mid-2000s. It combines the unmistakable Luminor case with a clean, highly legible chronograph layout, resulting in a watch that feels every bit as purposeful today as it did when it was first introduced.

The Story

Despite being a chronograph, the PAM236 never feels overly busy. The black dial, matching sub-dials and bold luminous markers maintain the clean, military-inspired look Panerai is known for, while the tachymeter bezel and chronograph pushers add just enough presence without overwhelming the design. It’s unmistakably a Panerai first, and a chronograph second.

The Daylight name traces its roots back to Panerai’s relationship with Sylvester Stallone, whose custom “Daylight” models helped introduce the brand to a much wider audience in the late 1990s. The PAM236 carries that heritage forward in a more refined package, pairing the familiar 44mm Luminor case with an automatic chronograph movement and a full stainless steel bracelet. Produced between 2006 and 2008, it remains one of the more recognisable modern Daylight references.

Collector’s Insight

There was a time when almost every serious collection seemed to include a Panerai, and the Daylight was one of the references that defined that era. Today, it offers something a little different. Instead of chasing modern trends, it reminds us why Panerai became so popular in the first place—bold proportions, excellent legibility and a design that still looks unmistakably Panerai from across the room.
