The Rolex Sea-Dweller Deepsea “James Cameron” (Ref. 136660) is not just a dive watch—it’s a tribute to the extremes of human exploration, forged in the spirit of one of the most ambitious underwater journeys in modern history. Released as a follow-up to the Deepsea Challenge expedition led by filmmaker and explorer James Cameron, this watch commemorates the historic solo descent to the Mariana Trench in 2012.
Crafted in Oystersteel, the 44mm case is nothing short of a technical marvel. It features Rolex’s patented Ringlock System—a multi-component architecture built to withstand pressures at depths of up to 3,900 meters (12,800 feet). The watch is topped with a 5.5mm-thick domed sapphire crystal and secured with a titanium caseback, combining aerospace-grade materials for serious underwater resilience.
The “D-Blue” dial is the watch’s most distinctive hallmark. It fades from deep ocean blue to pitch black, symbolizing the descent into the abyss, with the word “DEEPSEA” printed in vibrant lime green—echoing the color of Cameron’s submersible. Paired with a unidirectional ceramic bezel and Chromalight-filled markers, the dial remains legible in the most challenging conditions.
